Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities in Kazakhstan.
"On August 11, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Pavlodar and Almaty, and at night in the cities of Atyrau and Astana," the statement said.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term meteorological factors (calm weather, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the surface layer of the atmosphere.
An inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air lies above cold air, as if covering it. Normally, air near the ground is warmer and rises, carrying pollutants upward. During an inversion, cold air is “trapped” below, along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollutants accumulate near the ground, especially in cities.
