Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities in Kazakhstan.
“On July 23, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Aktobe, Almaty, and at night — in Astana,” the statement reads.
It is worth noting that on July 22, meteorologists had already warned residents of Astana and Almaty about unfavorable weather conditions.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term atmospheric factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower atmospheric layer.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air lies above cold air, effectively “trapping” it. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises and carries pollutants upward. But during an inversion, the cold air remains near the surface, along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates at ground level, especially in urban areas.
