Tengrinews.kz – Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev spoke about the progress of the investigation into the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crash.

According to him, the investigation consists of two parts: the first is a criminal investigation handled by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan together with Russian colleagues; the second is a technical investigation conducted by the Ministry of Transport.

“The Ministry of Transport is in the final stages of the investigation. We are now awaiting the final conclusion from the licensors or technology owners — air navigation instruments and so on. In principle, the Ministry of Transport will be ready to finalize the report, possibly this year or early next year,” he said on the sidelines of the Mazhilis.

Bozumbayev added that the Prosecutor General’s Office is also making progress.

“As for the Prosecutor General’s part — they are in close contact. There is movement there as well, as you have seen from statements made by leaders of neighboring states. Therefore, we hope that next year it will also be completed,” the deputy prime minister noted.

Earlier, Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov stated at a government briefing that the report on the AZAL plane crash investigation would be presented before the end of this year.

To recap, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by AZAL, flying from Baku to Grozny, crashed on the morning of December 25, 2024, near Aktau in western Kazakhstan. On board were 67 people, including five crew members. Thirty-eight were killed, and 29 survived.
