Tengrinews.kz – Kazakh citizens have encountered an unexpected issue when trying to send parcels to the United States. Postal offices are refusing to accept shipments and are not providing explanations. A Tengrinews.kz correspondent investigated the situation.

What happened

A reader contacted the editorial team via our Telegram bot, reporting that for a month he had been unable to send a parcel to the U.S.

“Over the past month, I’ve repeatedly tried to send a package to the United States, but none of the Kazakh postal offices will accept such shipments. When I ask why, the postal workers can’t give a clear answer. There is also no information about any restrictions on the official Kazpost website,” he wrote.

According to the reader, neither the hotline nor branch employees could explain the reason for the ban or provide any supporting documentation.

What Kazpost said

In response to Tengrinews.kz’s inquiry, Kazpost’s press service explained that the restriction is linked to a decision by the U.S. authorities.

“Kazpost JSC informs that, in accordance with a decision by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection dated August 26, 2025, the acceptance and delivery of parcels containing goods to recipients in the U.S. is temporarily suspended. The sending of letters and documents continues as normal,” the company stated.

The national postal operator clarified that the new rules affect most countries worldwide. Currently, only five out of 192 member states of the Universal Postal Union are allowed to send merchandise parcels to the U.S.

Kazpost added that they are in ongoing contact with their international partners and are negotiating for a speedy resumption of the service.

“We apologize for the inconvenience,” the company added.

The Tengrinews.kz editorial team also reached out to the U.S. side for official comments, but had not received a response at the time of publication.
