Tengrinews.kz – The National Security Committee (NSC) has published data on the seizure of illegal weapons and ammunition, including those stolen during the January events.

According to the NSC, since the beginning of August raids have been carried out jointly with the police and under the coordination of the prosecutor’s office in Astana, Shymkent, as well as the Atyrau, Zhambyl, Karaganda, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, and Ulytau regions.

“Seized were 12 Kalashnikov assault rifles, 6 pistols, 15 rifles, 3 grenades, and more than 500 rounds of ammunition,” the NSC press service reported.

Investigative and operational measures have been initiated in connection with these findings. Work in this direction is ongoing.

As a reminder, earlier in Kazakhstan, 40 caches of weapons and ammunition were discovered. A total of 400 firearms and more than 2,500 rounds of ammunition stolen during the January events were seized.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Lepekha also stated that law enforcement agencies have seized far more weapons than were stolen from gun shops during the January unrest.
