Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population has explained how a potential shift to a four-day workweek could affect salaries.

Shalkar Orazbekov, head of the Department of Labor and Social Partnership, recalled that a four-day workweek has been allowed in Kazakhstan since 2015.

"In 2023, the Social Code also outlined the option of a four-day workweek. As for salaries, according to the Labor Code, wages are paid in proportion to the amount of work performed. Accordingly, if the number of working days per week is reduced, salaries are paid in proportion to that reduction," Orazbekov explained at a Central Communications Service briefing.

However, he added that if an employer maintains the same salary despite the reduction in working days, it will not be considered a violation and does not contradict the Labor Code.
