Tengrinews.kz - Social media reports claim that Kuanlyk Bishimbayev, the former Minister of National Economy, was involved in a fight with his cellmate in a detention center. Allegedly, his cellmate sustained multiple injuries.

However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Committee of the Penal System has firmly denied these allegations.

"This information is not true. The Committee of the Penal System reminds the public of the legal consequences for spreading false information," stated the press service of the committee.

On May 13 in Astana, the trial concerning the murder of Saltanat Nukenova concluded. Former Minister Bishimbayev was found guilty of torturing and murdering his wife. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

His brother, Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, was found guilty of covering up the crime and was sentenced to four years in prison.

On June 26, the appellate court upheld the sentences of both Bishimbayev and Baizhanov.
