Tengrinews.kz - A resident of Astana has been sentenced for multiple instances of fraud after using souvenir banknotes to pay for her purchases.

According to the press service of the court, the defendant, identified as citizen M., made purchases at a cosmetics store, using a 20,000 tenge souvenir bill and taking the change for herself. She repeated this method several times, defrauding a total of five victims and causing property damage of 88,500 tenge.

Her guilt was confirmed by witness testimonies, forensic examinations, and bank transactions.

The prosecutor requested that M. be sentenced to three years of restricted freedom. The woman admitted her guilt and requested a lighter sentence, promising to compensate the victims.

“The court found M. guilty under Article 190, part 3, section 4, of the Criminal Code and sentenced her to three years of restricted freedom,” the court statement reads.

The sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
