Tengrinews.kz – As part of the national operational and preventive campaign “Qaru,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs seized 400 firearms and over 2,500 rounds of ammunition that had been stolen during the January events, according to Polisia.kz.
The operation was conducted from June 2 to June 6.
“Four hundred firearms, over 2,500 rounds of ammunition, and six explosive devices were removed from illegal circulation; 40 weapon and ammunition caches were discovered; weapons and police gear stolen during the January events were recovered, including two Kalashnikov rifles, four pistols, four rifled carbines, as well as service body armor, helmets, and shields; 87 firearms were voluntarily surrendered,” the Polisia.kz statement reads.
According to the report, over 29,000 civilian gun owners were inspected, and 845 individuals were held administratively liable.
“Police also inspected more than 10,000 farms and pasture-based households, where over 65 firearms of various types were confiscated,” said Kanat Nurmagambetov, head of the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
He emphasized: “The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminds citizens that voluntarily surrendering illegally held weapons exempts one from criminal and administrative liability.”
“We urge citizens to act responsibly and contribute to public safety by turning in any weapons they possess without legal grounds,” Nurmagambetov added.
