“For the 6 months of 2011 a total of $1.2 billion was invested into housing construction in Kazakhstan. A total of 2.7 million square meters of floor area were commissioned for the period under review”, KazTag quoted PM Massimov as saying at the sitting on the H1 2011 economy results July 21. The PM also said that the recently launched state program to renovate the housing and public utilities infrastructure in 2011-2020 “is undergoing its pilot stage (…) the effect can be felt in 2012”. President Nazarbayev said that “this renovation initiative is a new direction the state has undertaken (…) We are offering timeworn housing owners to participate (…) 50% of the expenses are covered by the state. In some regions - notably, East Kazakhstan and Astana – this program is working effectively. The government should make people aware of the program’s advantages [so that they could benefit from the state contribution]”.
