In 2010 Kazakhstan exported a total of 50 000 tons to China, Profinance.kz cites the minutes of the 5th sitting of the Subcommittee for Trade and Economic Cooperation between Kazakhstan and China. “To further expand Kazakh grain exports, the sides agreed to instruct interested companies to proceed with constructing of a grain terminal at the Kazakh-Chinese border”, the document said. Kazakhstan has been seeking to export grain to South-East Asia across China’s territory since 2009. In January Prodcorporation (Food Corporation) Chairman Bebitkhan Kabdrahmanov said at a sitting of the Exporters Council of the Ministry of Industry and New Technology that Kazakhstan’s efforts to promote grain exports through China hadn’t been successful as grain imported to China from Australia and the USA is more competitive given the cheaper maritime transportation.
