Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan’s customs legislation and EAEU regulations strictly control the import of goods hazardous to health and the environment. Despite this, some companies attempt to bypass existing rules and bans, according to the Main Transport Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors’ inspections revealed that certain participants in foreign economic activity import used tires along with wheel rims — something only permitted with a special license.

"From April to June of this year, 159 cases of illegal import of such tires were recorded in one region, with a total weight of nearly 1,500 tons. In another region, over 200 tons of similar products were imported in previous years," the publication stated.

The Main Transport Prosecutor’s Office reminded that such tires are classified as hazardous waste and their use can pose risks to road safety and the environment.

Following the prosecutor’s intervention, the State Revenue Committee strengthened controls and updated measures within the risk management system.
