'100-million bribe' in Bishimbayev case: Convicted woman appealed verdict

Earlier, a jury found L. Gracheva guilty of attempting to commit large-scale fraud against A. Nurlybekova by falsely promising to help reduce the sentence of her son, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, the former Minister of National Economy. The convicted woman encouraged the ex-minister's mother to offer a bribe of 100 million tenge to appellate court judges.
Disagreeing with the jury's verdict, Gracheva filed an appeal.
"The appellate instance upheld the guilty verdict, noting that no violations were identified in the case. All stages of the judicial investigation were conducted in accordance with established legal norms. The issue of sentencing was resolved by the judge and jury in compliance with Article 656 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The judicial decisions are now final," the court stated.
Earlier, an Astana resident was suspected of attempting to embezzle 100 million tenge under the pretext of reducing the sentence of ex-minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev. Later, the ex-minister's lawyers revealed details of the case, stating that the suspect was detained while receiving a fake cash bundle.
The woman who, according to the prosecution, offered to reduce the sentence Kuandyk Bishimbayev for 100 million tenge, made her final statement in court.
