Tengrinews.kz – OpenAI is changing its approach to training AI models, announcing a commitment to 'intellectual freedom', even when dealing with complex or controversial topics.

According to TechCrunch, these changes will allow ChatGPT to answer more questions, present multiple perspectives, and reduce the number of restricted topics.

"These updates may be part of OpenAI's strategy to build relationships with the new Trump administration, but they also reflect broader trends in Silicon Valley and evolving views on AI safety," the article states.

Last week, OpenAI released an updated model specification - a 187-page document outlining its AI principles and training methods. One of the key new principles emphasized in the document is 'not lying' - avoiding both the spread of false information and the omission of important details.

In a section titled "Seeking Truth Together," OpenAI states that it does not want ChatGPT to take an editorial stance, even if some users find neutrality morally uncomfortable or offensive. Instead, the chatbot will present various perspectives on controversial topics, striving for balance.

Rather than refusing to answer or favoring one side in political debates, OpenAI wants ChatGPT to express "a love for humanity" while providing context for all viewpoints.

"This principle may be controversial, as it means the assistant could remain neutral on issues some consider morally unacceptable or offensive," the document states. "However, the AI assistant's goal is to assist humanity, not to shape it."

ChatGPT will still have limits

Despite the loosening of restrictions, the new policy does not make ChatGPT an unregulated platform. The AI will still decline to answer inappropriate questions or support outright false claims.

Some critics view these changes as a response to conservative backlash, with claims that ChatGPT's previous restrictions had a liberal bias. However, an OpenAI representative denied that the company is adapting its policies to appease the Trump administration.

Instead, OpenAI states that its push for intellectual freedom reflects a long-standing belief in giving users more control, according to the report.
