Informational portal Lyakhov.KZ - Big Encyclopedia of Kaznet appeared in Kazakhstan segment of the Internet in December 1996. The first virtual shop and Guide Park catalog, as well as the first website in the Kazakh language appeared one year later. According to Kazakhstan Statistics Agency, the number of Kazakhstan’s Internet users keeps growing. There were around 70 thousand Internet users in 2000 and their number reached 9.4 million people in 2012. The international organization World Wide Web Foundation rated Kazakhstan 28th in the world in The Web Index putting it ahead of Russia and China. Registration of websites in the national domain zone .каз was made possible in the middle of August 2012. The new domain zone lets websites write their names in Cyrillic and use Kazakh alphabet.
