Tengrinews.kz - Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerzhan Yerkinbayev answered a question about plans to build a Disneyland in Astana.
According to Yerkinbayev, we are talking about a large tourist quarter.
"I am not sure that this is Disneyland, but the projects that are already being implemented include a tourist quarter in Astana. This is a large complex that will have a very serious amusement park. This project is in the implementation stage," Yerkinbayev said during a briefing in the government.
The new park will be located behind the Barys Arena. It is planned to open in 2027.
"This is a foreign investor who believed in our capital and has already begun implementation. This is a huge complex: it is not only an entertainment center, but also a large shopping center and an international-class hotel. And we think that this will be a serious destination in our capital, which will attract tourists," the vice minister added.
Recall that the construction of Disneyland in Kazakhstan has been discussed for more than 10 years. Back in 2012, the then-deputy of the Senate Gani Kasymov proposed using EXPO-town as Disneyland.
A year later, the head of a large network of amusement parks Rustam Ageyev wanted to build a project on the scale of Disneyland in Kazakhstan, but in Almaty. At that time, the authors of the idea had a feasibility study, so they intended to implement the mega-project in two years. In the same 2013, they started talking about building an analogue of Disneyland in Ust-Kamenogorsk and Pavlodar. The now convicted former minister Arystanbek Mukhamediuly also called for the creation of analogues of Cirque du Soleil and Disney in Kazakhstan.
