New equipment will be used at construction of the second phase of Almaty subway, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the city's Akimat (administration) press-office. Akim (Governor) of Almaty-city Akhmetzhan Yessimov has set a task for subway workers to finish construction of two new stations in two years. “This December was a special month for us, Almaty citizens, and for the whole country. The President triumphantly opened the Almaty subway on December 1. The subway is working now, and it hasn't stopped even for one hour. Our citizens have already learned that this is a comfortable and speedy means of transport. We have started the second phase of construction. The next stations will reach into more residential districts of the city. This is an essential and socially important project for the city with almost two million residents,” Akhmetzhan Yessimov said. Murat Ukshebayev, director of Metropoliten state enterprise said that it is possible to carry out the assigned task if the conditions of work are good, including favorable geology and sufficient funding. The route of the first kick-off site of the first line's second phase lays from Gagarin avenue alongside Abay avenue to the west till Altynsarin avenue. The two new subway stations Sairan and Moscow will connect the central part of the city with Almaty residential districts. Sairan station will be situated between Tlendiyev and Brusilovskiy Streets under Abay Avenue. At present there are mainly low-rise apartment buildings with a road network in this part of the city. One of the ways of development of this part in future would be demolition of the low-rise buildings and construction of modern buildings with developed infrastructure, big business centers and shopping malls. Reconstruction of the road network is also planned. Moscow station will be situated between Utegen Batyr Street and Altynsarin Avenue under Abay Avenue. This part of the city is called 5th and 8th residential districts and they are built up with four- and five-storey buildings. The road network is also in place there, but it is eligible for reconstruction in future. Abay Avenue could be widened and Utegen Batyr Street could be extended to the North till Satpayev Street. A more efficient road interchange could also be constructed on crossing of Abay Avenue and Utegen Street.
