Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan may start railroad transportation along Uzen-Turkmenistan’s state border route in October, KazTAG reports citing press-release of Kazakhstan Ministry of Transport and Communications. The Transport and Communications Commission of the Ministry held a meeting to prepare for the launch of the railroad transportation. This project is part of Uzen (Kazakhstan) – Kyzylgaya – Bereket – Etrek (Turkmenistan) – Gorgan (Iran) railroad and is implemented based on the agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran. The project provides for simultaneous completion of construction by December 2011. Implementation of the project will provide Kazakhstan with access to the Persian Gulf countries. “The active pace of construction and maintenance works allows for putting the facility into operation by October this year. Turkmenistan authorities are expected to take part in the launching ceremony. These authorities are also completing construction of their part of the road,” the press-release states. Kazakhstan authorities are working with Turkmenistan side on simultaneous opening of the trains movements. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan national railroad company) has already completed laying of the main railways (146 km). The works are in process to lay station tracks (52 km or 85 percent have been laid), construction of technical and social facilities and utilities. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that Karim Massimov discussed construction of railways with the president of Iran. It is expected that Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran will launch the railroad simultaneously in December 2011.
