Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has checked on the only pipe fittings plant in CIS during the visit to Atyrau oblast, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s official website. The plant is a joint project of Kazakhstan and Chevron. It will produce valves for water, gas and sewage pipes. The housing and utilities sector of Kazakhstan and CIS countries will be the plant’s major market outlet. The plant employs 75 highly-qualified Kazakhstan experts. The company is currently installing equipment. The first production is scheduled to start in July 2013. The President stressed that over 540 projects were implemented and over 100 thousand people got jobs in Kazakhstan in 3.5 years. Another 50 industrial projects will be implemented in 2013. “We are attracting capitals for development of our oil and gas industry. Kashagan project alone attracted over 50 billion in investments. All this generates revenues for the country’s budget. Implementation of other projects, in particular that of Caspian Pipeline Consortium, is also important for development of the country,” Nazarbayev said. The President noted that Kazakhstan has high end production facilities for manufacturing of helicopters and photoelectric plates. “Profits from the natural resources should be invested in processing to develop the economy and overcome its dependence on oil and metal prices,” Nazarbayev said. Speaking of the social sector in Atyrau oblast, the President stressed: “I have been visiting this region for over 30 years and I am familiar with its previous conditions: the city used to be underdeveloped. Right now, as you can see, the living conditions have changed. Atyrau is a symbol of Kazakhstan’s development over the years of independence. I would like to emphasize it once again that all the work of the government is aimed at improvement of our people’s well-being and protection of their interests.” Nazarbayev reminded that mortality rate from heart diseases in the region used to be one of the highest in the country. But in recent years the number had gone down, same as with the infant mortality rate. “The situation is improving every year. Some time ago we could make only 1 thousand complicated surgeries where 10 thousand were required, but now we are making all of them and new hospitals are being constructed in all the regions. People no longer have to go abroad for complicated surgeries. All this testifies of a big attention of the government towards the people’s health. Kazakhstan people have big hopes for their future, and for the future of their children and their country,” he said. Nazarbayev also spoke about the work done to improve the quality of education in Kazakhstan. “The modern world is developing rapidly. The level of knowledge is growing as well. We should keep up to the dynamics. Competitiveness is now driven by availability of unique knowledge," he said. "New schools are being built all around Kazakhstan. 3-shift education will be eliminated completely, so as schools in poor condition. Talented young people are being supported through creation of intellectual schools, Nazarbayev University and Bolashak Scholarship that has been issued to around 1,500 students already,” the President said.
