The Memorial of Glory in 28 Panfilov’s Guard Park in Almaty will be renovated for the first time, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to deputy head of Almaty Culture Department Yerbolat Auezov, the black plates next to the Eternal Flame will be fully replaced with plates from Ukraine. The plates on the main memorial and all the signs on the Glory alley will be replaced as well. “Minor repairs were done every year before May 9 celebrations, but these repairs did not fully resolve the problems. In its current state the memorial is made of soft instable metals. It has not been renovated for over 30 years and now has a sleazy appearance. Cracks are all over it,” Auezov said. “It was decided to fully renovate the Memorial of Glory.” According to Auezov, a bid was organized last December for development of the design documentation. Kumbez company was selected. On May 15 the company will submit its project to define the cost of the renovation. The tender for performance of the works will be held in the end of the month. “The plates fell off the Western part of the memorial,” Auezov said. “They will be replaced, but we will not touch the monuments, we have no right to do this. This is a precious memory. Besides, the technologies have changed and there are new materials now. By the end of the year we will have a completely new Memorial of Glory that will serve for many years to come,” he added. By Roza Yessenkulova
