A gas processing plant will be built in Kyzylorda oblast by 2014, Tengrinews.kz reports citing deputy Akim of the oblast Nurzhan Alibayev. According to the memorandum signed by the oblast administration, KazTransGas and PetroKazakhstan, the plant was initially supposed to be finished in 2015, but the Akim (Governor) came forward with an initiative of speeding up the process by 1 year. Alibayev said that the oblast was facing a gas deficit. Akshabulak field produces around 350 million cubic meters of gas. The plan was to increase gas supplies to 660 million cubic meters by 2014. “We are in talks with KazTransGas about collection and storage of 550 cubic meters of natural gas in oil storages near Kyzylorda, i.e. we should start stocking up gas for next winter now,” Alibayev added. Kazakhstan will invest $3.7 billion in the gas processing plant at Karachaganak oil and gas field. It is expected to be built by 2017. The company will supply gas to Astana and the whole northern region of Kazakhstan.
