Kyrgyzstan will rely on Kazakhstan in terms of power supply for another year, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Medetbek Aitkulov, Director General of the National Power Grid of Kyrgyzstan JSC.
Kyrgyzstan will rely on the so-called ring power system of Central Asia for the following year, shifting to its own power generation and distribution capacities afterwards. Up to now the country’s northern regions have depended on power supplied from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In 2015 Kyrgyzstan plans to compete construction of the Datka-Kemin power supply line to link the South and the North of the country.
According to Mr. Aitkulov, from that point on Kyrgyzstan will be self-reliant, with the northern regions being supplied from the internal sources. However, Kyrgyzstan has no plans of quitting the single power supply ring of Central Asia that ensures smooth power supply in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
“The single power supply system enables to help each other out expeditiously”, Mr. Aitkulov said.
