Kazakhstan to export horse meat to the EU

Kazakhstan may start to export horse meat to the EU, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the press service of JSC National Holding KazAgro. A memorandum between Astana AgroProduct and Italian Naba Carni was signed in Astana. According to the agreement Kazakh horse meet will be available at European markets in the nearest future. Kazakhstan and Italy will open a joint horse-breeding venture. “At a meeting in the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan a representative of Italian delegation and head of the project Antonio Rovida said that Italy’s Central Veterinary service is ready to provide all the necessary documents to certify Kazakh horse meet. Therefore, jointly produced horse meet will be the first certified product from Kazakhstan in EU countries,” reported in the message. The head of the Italian delegation further explained that at first there will be a feeding area for the 10 thousand livestock, that will regularly receive new livestock, and after the breeding is in place the Italian investors plan to start butch 25 thousand livestock annually. Vice-Minister of agriculture of Kazakhstan Marat Tolibayev stressed the importance of this project with regard to the government's export-oriented policy. He also noted that Kazakhstan is the right choice for this project because horse breeding has a traditional value here, and besides being excellent horse breedes Kazakhs are best producers of horse meat delicacies, which Europeans will most certainly appreciate. The meeting of Naba Carni President Virginio Madzin and Astana AgroProduct Director Serik Rahimbayev resulted in signing of the memorandum on preliminary research and analysis of staring an enterprise of horse breeding, livestock butchering and primary meat processing.
