Cell phone users in Kazakhstan made over 50 million calls on the New Year’s night and sent around 13 million text messages, Tengrinews.kz reports citing PR departments of GSM Kazakhstan/Kcell, Beeline and Tele2. Kcell and Active users made 12.2 million calls within the first hour of the new year and sent 2.7 million messages. The users called 36 million times within the first four hours, which is 10 million calls more than last year. The company’s press-center notes that the network’s capacity was increased prior to the holidays in order to manage the loads. The network successfully managed the loads, even though the number of calls within the first hour of the new year tripled compared to the same period in 2011. Tele2 operator also managed over 4 million calls and around 1.5 million messages. The company noted that the load doubled in the morning of December 31. However, the most number of calls were made in the period from 8:00 p.m. of December 31, 2011 to 5:00 a.m. of January 1, 2012. Besides the in-country calls, the users called Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Germany, China, Ukraine, the U.S. and Great Britain. The company’s press-service stated that last November the capacities of communication channels were increased and the loads on equipment were optimized and re-distributed in order to manage the loads. Beeline users made 36.7 million calls during the New Year’s night. The most number of calls were made at midnight, when Kazakhstan residents made over 10.5 million calls. This year the number of short messages sent by the users made 8.7 million. Thanks to preparatory works, performed in the company long before the holidays, the company’s network managed the loads. No failures were registered.
