Kazakh delegation visits Tatarstan

A delegation from Kazakhstan led by Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov arrived in the Republic of Tatarstan on 5 February, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, the press service of the government of Tatarstan and Nizhnekamsk Municipal District.

Kazakhstan is interested in employing the experience of the Republic of Tatarstan, on of the most developed regions of the neighbouring Russia, in oil production, refining and petrochemical industry, as well as in transitioning motor vehicles to natural gas. In turn, Tatarstan is interested in Kazakhstan's experience in banking, particularly Islamic banking, and in international cooperation, particularly with China.

During the visit, the delegation toured several plants in Tatarstan. For this, Defense Minister of Kazakhstan Imangali Tasmagambetov was accompanited by the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

Joined by the CEO of KAMAZ Sergey Kogoghin, the guests visited KAMAZ (trucks) plant in Naberezhnye Chelny. Kazakhstan’s market of heavy-duty vehicles is one of the most capacious and promising for KAMAZ, the largest automobile corporation in Russia ranking 11th among the world's top heavy truck manufacturers. Kazakhstan has been ranked first among the export markets of KAMAZ over the past years.

The delegation toured the main assembly line and assembly line of cabs at the factory. They also saw an exhibition of automotive engineering in the KAMAZ Scientific and Technical Center and visited a number of other production units. The tour was also attended by the Mayor of Naberezhnye Chelny Nail Magdeyev.

Next, Minnikhanov and Tasmagambetov visited TANECO in Nizhnekamsk. Touring the production facilities and the Central Control Complex, they were accompanied by the head of Nizhnekamsk Municipal District, Mayor of Nizhnekamsk Aidar Metshin and General Director of TANECO Leonid Alekhin.

TANECO is an innovative Russian petroleum refining company. It is part of Tatneft group of companies. It uses advnaced technologies to improve the domestic refining industry and produce marketable oil products. 

"Kazakhstan is one of the leading trade partners of Tatarstan. There is a good basis for strengthening our relations," Minnikhanov said. He added that Tatarstan and Kazakhstan had a bilateral agreement on the principles of cooperation in trade, science and technology, as well as culture. There is a plenipotentiary representative of the Republic of Tatarstan in Astana. In addition, the cities of Kazan and Astana are twin cities.

Minnikhanov said that the countries had an excellent potential for economic cooperation, in particular in petrochemical projects, mechanical engineering, automotive industry, helicopter building, shipbuilding, energy, agriculture and information technologies.

In December last year representatives of Kazakhstan and Tatarstan discussed prospects of cooperation and in January they signed a document that provided new opportunities for cooperation in the military industry. Kazakhstan intends to not only learn from the experience of Tatarstan in defence equipment but also to strengthen the collaboration.

"For example, take the mutually beneficial cooperation with KAMAZ holding company that involves setting up a regional network of maintenance and repair centers for the military vehicles in Kazakhstan," the press release of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan said. According to Tasmagambetov, the network will be created through the existing certified KAMAZ service centers in Kazakhstan.

Rustam Minnikhanov stressed that the Eurasian Economic Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus launched in January 2015, was a beneficial development for the cooperation between Kazakhstan and Tatarstan that would bring it to a new level through greater opportunities available in the framework of the new integration.

The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov thanked the representatives of Tatarstan for the opportunity to learn about the activities of their industrial enterprises and innovative platforms in Tatarstan. He said that Kazakhstan’s President attached great importance to the development and strengthening of relations with Russia and its regions.
