Astana-Almaty high-speed railroad line will shorten the trip time down to 5 hours instead of the current 13, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. “This route will be around 1,011km long. The exact route is yet to be defined. The new route will be 400-500 km shorter than the current one,” Director of the Public Relations Department of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (national railroad company) Murat Buldekbayev told Interfax-Kazakhstan. The average speed of Tulpar Talgo train on the new route will be 250 km/h and the train will take its passengers from Almaty to Astana in 5 hours 12 minutes instead of the current 13 hours. Earlier Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed to launch a new high-velocity railway link between Astana and Almaty across Lake Balkhash. “We are getting down to constructing a new passenger railway link between Astana and Almaty. The money will be there to finance the project,” he said. According to the President, the railroad has to go across Balkhash Lake, which will require building a bridge. Nazarbayev stresses that Kazakhstan-made Talgo trains will be running along the railway link.
