Construction of Tobol-Kokshetau-Astana gas pipeline will start in the fourth quarter of 2012, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Minister of Oil and Gas Sauat Mynbayev. “Feasibility study is being made, state approval has been obtained. This is quite an expensive project and, most probably, it has to be implemented at the state’s cost, otherwise the gas rates will be too high for people. I suppose that we will finish the cost estimates by the third quarter, so that we can order main equipment and pipes by that time. ThIs way the works may be started in the fourth quarter. This is a very tough schedule, but we will have instructions and we will follow them,” Mynbayev said at the meeting of the Ministry’s board on February 2. “Right now we are talking about supplies of the Russian gas that goes through Kostanai oblast. We should still work on certain operations on Karachaganak gas with Russia. I am not talking about construction of the second and further stages of the pipeline to Karachaganak in 2012; this is the task for the next years. We are now talking about construction of Tobol-Kokshetau-Astana pipeline and this work should be started,” Minister said. The instruction to gasify Kazakhstan’s central region was made by the President in his annual Address to Kazakhstan people.
