Kazakhstani energy experts have decided that construction of Kemin-Almaty high voltage power line is impractical, Tengrinews reports referring to Deputy Minister of Energy and Industry of Kyrgyzstan Aibek Kaliev. The power line would have facilitated energy export from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan. According to Kaliev, Kazakhstan R&D Institute EnergoSetProekt evaluated all the expenses and concluded that construction of Kemin-Almaty power line is impractical. The Kazakh energy experts suggested an alternative way that would satisfy both sides. At the moment, Kyrgyz experts are considering the offered alternative. Kazakhstan is planning to build the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan 500 kW power line in 2014-2018. The cost of the project is estimated at$ 210.3 million. The 400 km overhead power line is expected to run from Bakhash CHP plant to the Kyrgyz border. The power line will also cover Almaty and Zhambyl oblasts. The estimated cost of Kemin-Almaty power line is 151 million dollars. According to Kyrgyz experts, there it would have created additional export opportunity after new generating capacities and Kemin sub-station are launched. Meanwhile, the negotiations over construction of the power lines are still in progress.
