Construction of Almaty-Taldykorgan gas pipeline has been launched in Almaty oblast, KazTAG reports citing the press-service of Almaty oblast's administration. “Construction of Almaty-Taldykorgan gas pipeline is very significant for further development of the region’s infrastructure. Thanks to implementation of this project we will be able to provide gas supply to many villages and towns of our oblast with over 600 thousand people and cover around 35 percent of the oblast’s population,” oblast Akim (Governor) Ansar Mussakhanov said at the launching ceremony. “Our priority task today is to supply gas to Taldykorgan. For the first time in the history the oblast's center (Taldykorgan) will be get a non-stop supply of gas,” Akim said. According to KATEK company that implements this project, the cost of the pipeline is around 20 billion tenge ($133 million). “The pipeline will go via the territory of 7 regions of Almaty oblast: Karasai, Zhambyl, Ili, Balkhash, Kerbulak, Koksu and Yeskeldy. Its total length will make 264.8km,” the company stated. The construction is scheduled to be completed by December 2014. The company stresses that the gas pipeline is a very advanced one: it is the first distribution pipeline in the country with the design pressure of 100atm, which makes it possible to later expand it by another 230km and launch the construction of Kapal and Zhansugurov automated gas distribution stations to supply gas to remote Serkand and Alakol regions. “This will allow us to cover 72 more villages with a population of 128 thousand people,” the company said.
