Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed to create a “green quarter” pilot project for the EXPO-2017, Tengrinews.kz reports from the meeting dedicated to summarizing results of 2012 and specifying the course of implementation of the Stragtegy-2050. “Samruk-Kazyna fund and Astana administration have to develop and present the pilot project of construction of the “green quarter” in Astana by July 1. It has to be in the EXPO area,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said. In this relation President instructed national company Astana and the city’s administration to hold an international contest on development of the architectural design master-plan of this area in February. “We also have to develop a program for rebranding Astana and organize a professional complex marketing campaign. I am hereby instructing the Environmental Protection Ministry to develop a concept of the EXPO-2017 and submit it for approval of the state commission not later than the second quarter of this year. I also instruct all the Akims of the oblasts and cities, administrations of Astana and Almaty to develop and start implementing plans for creation of regional innovative systems,” the President said. According to te President, preparing and holding the EXPO-2017 is the most important catalyst of development of the innovative economy. Nazarbayev is confident that successful holding of the exhibition will become a test that will effect development of the State Program of Accelerated Industrial-Innovative Development. “We have to turn Astana into a clean and energy-effecient green city and make it an example for others. This is a great honor for Imangali Tasmagambetov (Astana Mayor), but the city cannot do it alone. I instruct the government and Samruk-Kazyna fund to ensure that power to the exhibition facilities is supplied from alternative energy sources. For example, this can be done using the wind park in Yereimentau. We are building it. Use solar batteries that we have already started producing. Also use other energy innovations that we also have,” President noted. According to Nazarbayev, an EXPO fully powered from alternative energy sources will become the first step to to the third industrial revolution. By Baubek Konyrov
