A cross-country gas pipeline will be brought to Almaty by 2015, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Astana Akim (Mayor) Imangali Tasmagambetov as saying at the meeting with the citizens. “Gas will become a brand new energy source for the Kazakhstan capital by 2015. By the end of 2014 KazMunaiGas is planning to bring the gas pipeline to Astana. This will include construction of two auto gas-distributing station with a capacity of 210 thousand cubic meters per hour,” Imangali Tasmagambetov said. According to him, the first stage of the project will include gasification of the industrial part and the city’s private sector. The feasibility study is being developed for distribution of gas in these two directions. “The will cover the residential areas in the capital’s outskirts and the industrial park. In general, the city needs 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas,” the Akim noted. Earlier chairman of Samruk-Kazyna assured that they found sources of funding for the gas pipeline via Astana and construction of the Tobol-Kokshetau-Astana gas pipeline would start in the first quarter of 2013.
