10 free WI-Fi hubs have appeared in Astana recently, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing JSC Astana Innovations press-office.
JSC Astana Innovations and the city's Akimat (municipal authorities) have implemented the Open Wi-Fi project as part of Smart Astana concept.
Astana residents are now able to surf through the Internet at Wi-Fi zones free of charge at the following locations :
- Nurzhol boulevard (between Orynbor Street and the headquarters of KazMunayGas national company),
- square in front of Duman shopping mall,
- round square near the headquarters of KazMunayGas national company,
- squares in front of MEGA shopping mall,
- Khan Shatyr shopping mall,
- Keruen shopping mall,
- Sary-Arka shopping mall,
- square on front of the Circus,
- square near the Palace of Independence,
- square in near the Palace of Peace and Accord (the Pyramid).
Besides, it is planned to launch several more free Internet access hubs on the right bank of the Ishim River. Astana map with Wi-Fi zones is available at Astana Innovationswebsite. Applications specifying desired locations of new Wi-Fi hubs can also be submitted at the website.
There are only few free Internet zones in Almaty at present. According to the City Information Systems Center's data there is only one free Wi-Fi zone at Arbat (Zhibek Zholy Street between Furmanov Street to Abylay Khan prospect.) It is planned to install several more Wi-Fi zones in Almaty by the end of this year.
