Almaty subway will be launched on December 1, KazTAG reports citing deputy Akim (Major) of Almaty Serik Seidumanov. “December 1 we are planning to open the subway. The second stage of construction has already started, we have already completed about 200 meters under Abai street in Kalkaman direction. We will complete the second stage within two years and people will be able to take a subway train from Kalkaman satellite town to Rayimbek street of Almaty. Right now the eight stations cannot solve the traffic problems,” Serik Seidumanov said. The cost of one trip in Almaty subway will make 80 tenge (a little more than half of a dollar), according to Aigul Yeshmagambetova, press-secretary of AlmatyMetroKurylys, subway construction company. She said that initialy the range between 75 tenge and 100 tenge was considered, but the cost of 80 tenge has been finally approved by the city adiministration. It is possible that after completion of the second stage, when more stations are put into operation, the cost will be reconsidered.
