Almaty has filed a claim against South-Korean company HYUNDAI Rotem after its train broke down under warranty, acting chief engineer of Metropoliten Aidyn Orazkhanov told Tengrinews.kz. According to the engineer, foreign experts have already arrived in Almaty. They have studied the breakage that occurred on November 2, but have not started the repairs yet. Orazkhanov said that initially the personnel of HYUNDAI Rotem refused to admit that the train broke due to the manufacturer's fault. However, later they agreed that the subway personnel were using the train correctly. Kazakhstan party states in the claim that the supplier was performing its warranty obligations carelessly. Orazkhanov stressed that the subway had not filed any demand for a compensation, but that it could claim a compensation of damages any moment. During the negotiations with HYUNDAI Rotem the decision was made that South Korean experts will stay in Almaty on a permanent basis to avoid any further breakages. They will have to perform preventive works and daily checks of the trains. A 20-minute delay disrupted the work of one of the trains in Almaty subway on November 2. The accident happened in during the morning rush hour; the passengers were late to work because of the accident and the subway had to provide them with special certificates.
