A new polyclinic has been launched today, five more new clinics will be built in Almaty in the coming years, Tengrinews.kz reports citing head of Almaty healthcare department Zhanat Kassymzhanova. According to Kassymzhanova, design and estimate documents are being prepared for construction of 5 territorial hospitals for remote regions of Almaty. Besides, around 20 old hospitals will be demolished. First of all, these will be the buildings built in the 1940s. New buildings will be erected in the place of the demolished ones. Meanwhile, a new clinic for 500 beds opened in Almaty on April 1. According to Almaty Akim (Mayor) Akhmetzhan Yessimov, it is one of the biggest medical facilities in Almaty. According to Yessimov, over 1 million tenge ($6.7 million) were allocated from the budget for its construction. “The polyclinic will render services to the citizens of Turksib region with the coverage of 37 thousand people. It is equipped with modern equipment. There will be 305 members of medical personnel, including 88 doctors,” Yessimov said. According to Kassymzhanova, all departments of the hospital are separate and have their own entrances. Few of the old hospitals are designed this way. “Turksib region of Almaty has four hospitals for adults, but they were not enough and were overloaded. That’s why the new hospital was built in 1.5 years,” Kassymzhanova said. According to her, this is the best equipped polyclinic in the region. Its doctors were specially trained to work with the state-of-the art equipment. By Asemgul Kassenova
