Nazarbayev wants Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus to team up on agriculture and gas30 april 2014, 16:24
President Nazarbayev proposed creating a Eurasian Agricultural Academy to jointly develop agricultural science in the Customs Union, Tengrinews reports.
“I consider it viable to create the Eurasian Agricultural Academy that would embrace all the scientific potential and experience of national agricultures. Cooperation in agriculture would boost export of the goods without creating any unwanted competition between our countries. All the forecasts of international experts show that consumption of food will be growing. Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus have a excellent opportunity here,” Nazarbayev said during his lecture at the Moscow State University.
President Nazarbayev also offered to create a single gas transportation network by connecting the national gas network of the three countries. This would strengthen the Eurasian economy against future challenges and ensure gas security of all the participating countries and uniformity of tariffs.
“We should adopt a common Eurasian Energy project that would map out a deep integration of our energy complex," he said, adding that the countries' networks, most of which they inherited from the Soviet Union, should have been reconnected with each other and adjusted to the modern conditions long ago.
President Nazarbayev called to make sure that small and middle-sized business play a role in the Eurasian economy's large-scale plans and are not dwarfed by national companies.
“It is an important because it makes the economy flexible in responding to global challenges. Financial institutions and services can be created on the basis of the Eurasian Bank. The bank has already been working for some time and there are other countries that want to join, like China that is becoming a major source of financing for joint projects,” Nazarbayev said.
