Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with the Chairman of the Board of Astana EXPO-2017 National Company Talgat Yermegiyaev, Tengrinews reports citing the official website of the President.
Nursultan Nazarbayev said a big challenge awaited Astana EXPO-2017 and the whole country was watching the progress of construction of venues and preparations for the event.
The exhibition will run from June 10 until September 10, 2017 and will be attended by more than 100 countries, at least 10 international organizations and about 10 leading innovation technologies companies.
"Preparatory activities should be carried out in accordance with the approved schedule. The face of Astana will change with the Exhibition Center. The whole economy will get a positive momentum,” the president said.
According to the approved plan, all 38 EXPO-2017 venues should be ready by December 2016. International exhibitors will begin preparing their pavilions in January 2017.
“We should give work to small and medium-sized businesses that are engaged in production of materials needed for the construction,” Nazarbayev instructed.
“Another important issue is the use of the venues after the exhibition. They should find application after it is over," Nazarbayev added.
Yermegiyaev confirmed that construction of the facilities for EXPO-2017 was going in accordance with the approved schedule.
He said that memoranda will be singed by the year’s end with Oblast administration bodies that would list the materials needed for the construction. “As of today the building materials are already being purchased from local companies," he said.
He stressed that the company had developed mechanisms for attracting alternative sources of funding. Yermegiyaev said that at preliminary stage direct private investments, including those into projects of construction of hotels, residential real estate and other EXPO-2017 facilities, exceeded $800 million.
