Kazakhstan PM Massimov calls energy security one of greatest challenges of modern time

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov said that energy security was one of the major challenges faed by the global community and that Kazakhstan wanted to fill the niche as hydrocarbons producer, Tengrinews reports the official website of the Prime Minister.

Speaking at the 25th session of the Energy Charter Conference in Astana, Kazakh Prime-Minister Massimov said that the question of global energy security was “one of the central problems of our time” because economic growth led to a rise of demand for energy resources.

In this situation Kazakhstan could become one of the major producers of hydrocarbons. He added that Kazakhstan was intending to develop the shale gas industry as well.

"Over the recent years, Kazakhstan has become the world's leading exporter of energy. In the coming years we hope to be among the ten major producers of energy, including natural gas production. We are also going to our develop deposits of shale gas," Massimov said.

He added that it was important for Kazakhstan to tap into renewable sources of energy.

“Not a single company, not a single state can solve this problem on their own. We must respond to these challenges together," he stressed.

Prime Minister added that ensuring global energy security necessitated the development of transit corridors.

“Kazakhstan as a reliable partner for the East and the West and has an important place in the system of global energy security, and we are working towards diversification of our energy supply routes," Massimov said noting that the development efficient energy supplies was of general interest to producers, transporters and consumers of energy.

Finishing his speech Kazakh Prime-Minister Massimov assured that Kazakhstan was working hard to “adders all the energy security challenges of the XXI century."
