Many kilometers of bike lanes will be constructed in Astana to make life more safe and comfortable for cyclists and promote healthy lifestyle, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Astana municipal authorities. "The General Plan of Astana, approved by the Government of Kazakhstan, provides for construction of the bike lanes before 2030. 74km of cycling infrastructure, including bicycle lanes, parking lots, benches and bike rental shops are part of the plan," the message said. The layout also provides for crossovers, traffic lights and ramps where the cycle lanes will be crossing heavily loaded streets and highways. The cycle lanes of three different types will be constructed in the city: - independent cycle lanes for bikes only; - cycle lanes at driveway, separated with a concrete fence or striping; - cycle lanes at sidewalks, separated with striping or border stones. Besides that, special places for storage of bicycles, where people can leave them, will be constructed. 4 km of cycle lanes were built near Kurgaldzhin highway in 2011.
