Alexandre Vinokourov, Kazakhstan's 2012 London Olympic cycling champion has undergone a surgery in Paris, Vesti.kz reports referring to Astanafans.com.

Vinokourov was operated to remove a metal frame from his hip. The frame was installed after he got into a ditch during the 2011 Tour de France race. “I was operated in Paris. The surgeons have removed the metal frame from my hip. Here it is – the Olympic gold axis! I have lost a lot of blood once again and have to use crutches for walk. So I am taking a lot of rest now,” Vinokourov said.

Vinokurov crashed 98 km before the finish at one of Tour de France stages in summer 2011 and managed to get up only with the help of his partners. The cyclist had pelvic and elbow fractures. He announced his retirement, but decided to continue participating in big competitions after he rehabilitated. Vinokourov won the first gold for Kazakhstan team in the first day of the London Olympic by winning the men’s Olympic road race.
