The mass protest started in Thailand in November 2013. Members of the opposition Democrat Party are demanding an immediate resignation of Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra, a sister of the prime-minister Thaksin Shinawatra ousted by royalist generals in 2006. The clashes between protesters and police are still taking place in Bangkok. The government has not tried to stop the protests, despite warnings that they could take a heavy toll on the economy and local businesses if they drag on. The last move made by the protesters was occupation of main streets in central Bangkok in an attempt to "shutdown" the capital, escalating a campaign to unseat the embattled premier and disrupt the February election. Tens or even hundreds of thousands of flag-waving protesters are massed at key intersections in the city, setting up rally stages along with tents for sleeping and stalls offering free food.
