Kazakhstan’s 20-y.o. figure skater Denis Ten won the first medal for Kazakhstan at the Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi, scoring 255.10 points. Ten climbed from the 9th line after the short program to the Olympic bronze in the men's free skating at the Iceberg Skating Palace. The famous figure-skater from Kazakhstan was the only one of the top seven to skate clean, with Japanese Yuzuru Hanyu claiming the first gold for Japan despite falling twice ahead of three-time world champion Patrick Chan of Canada.
