British cyclist Mark Cavendish from Omega Pharma-Quick Step team won the first stage of Giro d’Italia race.
The British cyclist rode a 130km distance in 2 hours 58 minutes and 38 seconds. He was followed by Italian racer Elia Viviani (Cannondale) and Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ). Estonian cyclist Tanel Kangert was the best among Astana team cyclists finishing the first stage in the 20th place. Astana captain Vincenzo Nibali was ranked 29th.
