The National Bank of Kazakhstan released commemorative coins Petroglyphs of Tamgaly, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the National Bank's press-service. “The National Bank announces release of two commemorative silver proof quality Petroglyphs of Tamgaly coins with gold plating and pad printing with a nominal value of 500 tenge that are part of the National Heritage coin series,” the National Bank’s press-release reads. Petroglyphs of Tamgaly coins are shaped as tetrahedron. The coins with gold plating and pad printing have the same images on the obverse and on the verso. The images of petroglyphs of archeological Tamgaly landscape, National Bank's logo and trade mark of Kazakhstan mint are depicted on the stylized depiction of stony Tamgaly landscape around the perimeter of the coin. The official symbol of Eurasian Economic Community is also depicted on the coin with pad printing. Petroglyph’s image Solar Deity with a flower that has grown through the stone is depicted in the central part of the verso of the coin. The image of the flower is gold-plated on the coin without pad printing. Sigillate lettering PETROGLYPHS OF TAMGALY in Kazakh and English are placed around the perimeter of the coin. “Petroglyphs of Tamgaly pad printing coin has been released as part of the International Eurasian Economic Community Precious Metals Collectors’ Coins Release and Sales Program,” the bank officials say. The coins with a nominal value of 500 tenge are made of proof quality sterling silver and weigh 24 grams each. The size of the coins is 40.1 x 40.4 mm and 31.0 x 31.2 mm, the mintage is 5000 copies of each coin. The press-service of the Bank added that besides their collector value, the commemorative coins of 500 tenge denomination are accepted in accordance with their nominal value at the territory of Kazakhstan for any kind of payments and also for crediting accounts, deposits, letters of credit and also for bank transfers. The coins can be exchanged in all banks of Kazakhstan. Tamgaly is a petroglyph site in Semirechye, Kazakhstan. Tamgaly is located 120 km to northwest of Almaty. The majority of the 5000 petroglyphs are located in the main canyon, but there are a number of petroglyphs at many of the canyon's sides. The petroglyphs are mostly Bronze Age, but in some cases they are Iron Age and Medieval. The name Tamgaly in Kazakh means a "painted or marked place". Tamgaly became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
