Kazakhstan is going to stop gas supplies to Kyrgyzstan because of its debts, Tengrinews.kz reports from Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan’s debt to KazTransGas (national gas transportation company) is $7.5 million. On April 16, 2012, Kyrgyzgas received a written warning from Kazakhstan suppliers informing them of gas supply suspension in case of failure to pay the debts by May 1, 2012. According to Kyrgyzgas, the debt to Kazakhstan was occurred because of non-payment for gas use by major industrial and energy companies of the country. Kyrgyzzhilkommunsoyuz, Bishkekteploenergo and Tokmok Zhyluuluk state companies did not pay for the gas. Meanwhile, all the Kyrgyzstan citizens scrupulously paid for gas they use in their homes. The citizens’ debts for gas are very small. Kyrgyzstan is going to allocate over $2 million from the state budget to cover the debts to KazTransGas. However, it is not yet clear, how the rest of the debt will be paid.
