Astana did not get into the rating of the most competitive cities of the world, while Almaty was ranked 100th out of 120 cities, Interfax-Kazakhstan writes. Annual Global City Competitiveness Index was presented by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) research group at the initiative of Citigroup under Hot Spots project. According to the survey results published on EIU website, Almaty, the largest city of Kazakhstan, is rated 100th and Astana is not in the list. The survey looked into the cities' attractiveness for investments, business and people. In particular, the project's authors compared the 120 cities of the world in 8 categories: economic potential, financial system, universities, human capital, physical capital, global integration, social-cultural environment and ecology. The Index is led by New York. London and Singapore are ranked second and third, correspondingly. Moscow is rated 58th. Top ten cities also include Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo, Zurich, Washington, Chicago and Boston. Almaty shares its 100th place in the Index with Saint-Petersburg and is ahead of Kiev that is ranked 108th.
