The total amount of alimony debt made up more than 124 million tenge (about one million dollars) in Almaty in 2011, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Gulnara Dzhanbayeva, Almaty minors rights defense prosecutor assistant. According to her, 3147 enforcement proceedings on alimony payments to 3665 children were registered in 2011. Prosecutor’s office will try to resolve the issues connected with alimony payments, Dzhanbayeva said. Data obtained through Begin with Yourself campaign will be helpful as well. 147 calls with complaints against 151 alimony debtors were recorded during the campaign. “People from all parts of Kazakhstan called our hotline during the campaign, but unfortunately the campaign covered only Almaty,” the prosecutor’s assistant said. The list of alimony payers who failed to make the payments to their children was submitted to the General Prosecutor’s Office for further action. There are public service officers, National Security Committee and Financial Police officers among those who dodge alimony payments. Begin with Yourself campaign was held on February 1-29 this year. Almaty Prosecutor’s Office along with Crisis Centers Union Association of legal entities and Aman-Saulyk Public Fund organized and held the campaign.
