Forbes tagged Timur Kulibayev the most influential businessman in Kazakhstan

The list of top 50 influential businessmen of Kazakhstan is led by chairman of Samruk-Kazyna national holding Timur Kulibayev, KazTAG reports citing Forbes Kazakhstan.

“Timur Kulibayev is managing Samruk-Kazyna national holding and mostly staying away from politics. In 2011 American Forbes ranked Kulibayev the 3rd in the list of Kazakhstan billionaires, evaluating his wealth at $1.3 billion. Timur Kulibayev directrly or indirectly owns shares in investment, construction and other businesses via Almex holding and other companies,” Forbes wrote in October.

Second place was given to former head of Kazakhstan President’s Administration Bulat Utemuratov.

“After sale of ATF Bank to Italian UniCredit Group he was included by American Forbes into the list of the richest people in the world. With his $1 billion he took the 8th place in Kazakhstan part of the list. The assets controlled by Bulat Utemuratov include Metrokombank, Kassa Nova Bank, Nova Leasing and popular media-resources,” the magazine states.

“The third place is given to Belgian citizen Patokh Shodiyev. The main asset of Shodiyev is ENRC, where he owns 14.59 percent of shares. He also owns one third of the charter capital of the Eurasian Bank,” Forbes Kazakhstan writes.

According to the magazine, Shodiyev’s wealth is estimated at $3.7 billion and he is leading the list of top Belgian billionaires.

Citizen of Israel Aleksander Mashkevich, who is ranked 6th in the list of Israeli billionaires with his $3.7 billion, is ranked 4th in the list of the most influential entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan. Mashkevich “is the most popular businessmen among the owners of ENRC”, the magazine writes.

President and major shareholder of Kazakhmys corporation Vladimir Kim with $4.7 billion is ranked 5th in the rating of importance, while American Forbes ranking him first among Kazakhstan billionaires.

“He is currently controlling 25.4 percent of Kazakhmys corporation via Cuprum Holding B.V. The governmnet became the main partner of Vladimir Kim in his deals with securities,” Forbes Kazakhstan writes.

The list of Forbes Kazakhstan also includes the owner of the largest metallurgical empire Lakshmi Mittal ($31.1 billion, the 6th place in the world’s top billionaires list), the only Kazakhstan citizen among ENRC owners Adilzhan Ibragimov ($3.7 billion and second place in Kazakhstan part of Forbes-2011), chairman of the board of CenterCredit Bank Bakhytbek Baisseitov ($1 billion), chairman of the board and the main shareholder of Kazkommertsbank Nurzhan Subkhanberdin ($1 billion) and president of Astana Group Nurlan Smagulov.

Major shareholder of Almex holding and Narodnyi Bank Dinara Kulibayeva is ranked 16th. First Prime-Minister of independent Kazakhstan Sergey Tereschenko is ranked 25th and first deputy chairman of BTA Bank and head of Visor Investment Solutions Nikolai Varenko is 35th.

The last in the list is Director General of Vita Pyotr Potapov who created one of the largest food holdings producing edible oils, sugar, processing soybeans and having “assets abroad and broad connections in Kazakhstan business community.”
