Tengrinews.kz - Pope Francis' health has slightly improved, the Vatican press office announced on Wednesday, February 26, citing Deutsche Welle.
According to the medical update, the pontiff's kidney function has recovered, and his previously diagnosed mild kidney failure has regressed.
His bilateral pneumonia persists, but a recent CT scan shows normal disease progression. The pope remains on oxygen therapy, receiving supplemental oxygen through a nasal tube.
Despite the slight improvement, doctors have not yet provided a clear prognosis. However, the Vatican no longer describes his condition as "critical."
On February 23, the Vatican initially reported that Pope Francis was in critical condition, suffering from a persistent "asthma-like respiratory crisis." The press office later clarified that he had mild kidney failure.
The 88-year-old pontiff was hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 for examinations and treatment of bronchitis. It was later confirmed that he had bilateral pneumonia.
Francis, who had part of his lung removed in his youth, has faced ongoing health challenges in recent months, including prolonged bouts of bronchitis. This is his third hospitalization in the past two years.
