According to reports, the volcano began erupting on August 22 following a series of earthquakes. The Icelandic Meteorological Office noted that this eruption has shown "higher seismic activity" compared to previous ones.
"All data suggests that this eruption is the largest in the area since the unrest began in the fall of 2023," the statement said.

Despite the impressive lava flow, there was no immediate threat to nearby towns. However, local authorities advised residents to stay away from the eruption site. Nevertheless, the natural wonder attracted many tourists.
"The colors were truly amazing," one traveler remarked. "It felt like we were being drawn into... the fire."
Earlier in Iceland, a foreign tourist died and two others went missing following the collapse of an ice cave on a popular glacier.
